Our Voice

Supporting the business community through advocacy

Jasper is unlike any other community in Canada. A town of approximately 5,000 people situated entirely within a national park, Jasper's identity and economic life are inseparable from the visitor experience. Tourism, hospitality, outdoor recreation, and the businesses that support them are not just part of the local economy — they are the local economy.

Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce is Jasper's voice for business. We engage with municipal, provincial, and federal decision-makers to advance policies that support a healthy, sustainable visitor economy and the businesses and workers who make it possible. We monitor council proceedings, present to elected officials, make formal submissions to government, and collaborate with chambers across Alberta and Canada to amplify Jasper's unique needs.

Our advocacy is grounded in one conviction: Jasper thrives when its visitor economy thrives. Visitors to Jasper National Park are the reason Jasper exists — not a problem to be managed. Visitation is our economic driver, our greatest strength, and the source of community prosperity for everyone who lives and works here.

We are currently engaged on the following issues. Follow the links below to learn more about each area and how JPCC is working on your behalf.

Beyond the specific issues above, JPCC engages actively at the provincial and federal levels on matters that require action beyond the municipal table. We have organized and hosted roundtable meetings and direct discussions with provincial and federal ministers and senior officials — including Minister Eleanor Olszewski (Emergency Management and Community Resilience), Minister Martin Long (MLA for West Yellowhead and Minister of Infrastructure) and Ron Hallman, CEO of Parks Canada — on recovery, workforce and governance priorities. We have also made formal submissions to provincial and federal processes, including a submission to the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission opposing the proposed redistribution of Jasper out of the West Yellowhead riding.

Working With Our Economic Development Partners

Some of JPCC's most important work happens in collaboration with Jasper's other economic development organizations. On major initiatives — particularly those related to economic recovery — JPCC works as an equal partner with three organizations that share our commitment to a strong, sustainable Jasper economy.

Together, these four organizations are currently leading the 2024 Jasper Wildfires Economic Impact and Opportunity Assessment — a major industry-driven initiative to quantify the economic impact of the wildfire and chart a course for long-term recovery. See the Wildfire Recovery & Resiliency page for more.

Working with Chambers of Commerce Provincially and Nationally

JPCC also works in partnership with chambers of commerce at the provincial and national levels to advance issues that affect Jasper businesses.
