Jasper's voice for business
Jasper is unlike any other community in Canada. A town of approximately 5,000 people situated entirely within Jasper National Park, it exists because of — and for — the visitor experience. Tourism, hospitality, outdoor recreation and the businesses that support them are not one sector of Jasper's economy. They are Jasper's economy.
The Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce has been the voice of that economy since 1952. We are a member-driven organization representing the businesses and workers that keep Jasper running. Our work spans advocacy, member support and community engagement — all grounded in one conviction: Jasper thrives when its visitor economy thrives.
The Chamber's objectives, set out in our bylaws, describe an organization with a broad mandate. We exist to:
In practice, that means we show up — at council, in government offices, in the community — as active participants in Jasper's future, not observers of it.
The Chamber was founded in 1952 by local entrepreneurs, reflecting the belief that Jasper's businesses were stronger together. For much of the following three decades, the organization operated as Jasper Tourism and Commerce. When Tourism Jasper was established in 2009 to take on destination marketing, the Chamber sharpened its focus on advocacy and member support — a mandate it has pursued with increasing purpose ever since. Today, after more than 70 years, the Chamber represents a broad spectrum of businesses across all sectors and is more active than at any previous point in its history.
The Chamber's offices are located in the Robson House at 409 Patricia Street — a heritage building at the heart of Jasper's townsite. The Robson House Historical Society, established under the Chamber's auspices in 2001, oversees the maintenance and historical integrity of the building. Today, the Robson House remains both a working home for the Chamber and a fixture on Jasper's historical tour circuit.
The Chamber is Jasper's primary voice for the business community at every level of government. We attend Municipal Council regularly, make formal submissions on issues affecting local businesses, present to elected officials and write to provincial and federal decision-makers. We monitor council proceedings, track councillor statements and positions, and engage proactively on issues before they become problems. When decisions are made that affect Jasper's businesses — on taxation, land use, housing, workforce, infrastructure or recovery — we make sure business has a seat at the table.
Our advocacy is focused and ongoing. Current priorities include wildfire recovery and resiliency, municipal taxation and fiscal responsibility, workforce housing, workforce attraction and immigration, physician attraction and retention, and accountability in municipal governance. These aren't abstract positions — they are the practical issues shaping whether businesses in Jasper can operate, grow and thrive. Visit our Advocacy & Policy section to see what we're working on and where we stand.
Membership in the Chamber connects you to a network of peers, gives you a platform for visibility within the business community and puts your voice into a collective that carries real weight. We keep members informed — through our Council Watch newsletter, advocacy updates and direct communications — so you know what's happening and what it means for your business.
The Chamber is only as strong as its membership. If you own or operate a business in Jasper — or are engaged in the economic and social life of the community — and want to be part of the organization working on your behalf, we want to hear from you.
